It started with a ladder, a brush, and one house in Ramona.
Drew Rodriguez began painting homes in Ramona, California in 1986. The work came by word of mouth, one neighbour recommending him to the next, and it has largely stayed that way ever since — some of the clients who hired him in the eighties still call when something needs doing.
As the requests grew past paint — a bathroom that needed gutting, a wall that needed moving, a driveway that needed pouring — so did the company. Today Rodriguez General Contracting & Custom Painting Inc holds California general contractor licence #908488 and carries both general liability and worker's compensation insurance, so a single licensed company can take a project from design through framing, finish carpentry, stone, concrete, roofing and the last coat of paint.
What has not changed is the shape of the company. It is still family-owned and family-run out of Ramona. The owner is still the person who walks your job, writes your estimate, and answers the phone when you call (619) 884-6554. Our crews are our own employees rather than a rotating list of subcontractors, which is why a Rodriguez job tends to start when we said it would and finish the way it was drawn.

The call
You tell us what you are thinking about. We ask enough questions to know whether we are the right company for it, and we say so either way.

The in-home consultation
We come to the house, measure, look at what is behind the walls where we can, and talk through materials and sequencing. It is free and there is no obligation at the end of it.

You receive a detailed, itemised, written estimate. The number on it is the number you pay — no service fees discovered later, no hidden charges.

The work
Our own crews do the job, in the order and within the timeframe we set out. Your house is masked, protected, and cleaned down at the end of every day.

We walk the finished job with you and do not call it done until you do.
